That looks like Easter Purple Coneflower also known as Echinachea (sp?) which has medicinal properties. Some people like to put the petals in salads. Most people drink it as a tea, but has a variety of other medicinal uses. I am allergic to it. I love it..it's beautiful, but it makes my eyes water and makes me sneeze a lot. I think it's a flower that grows A LOT in your area. The best way to be absolutely sure it IS Purple Coneflower would be to take some to a local greenhouse or county extension and have them identify it for sure.
Do you have a lot of it growing in your yard? It looks really pretty! I miss you Buddy! Your mom tells me you're getting VERY tall!
